Este óleo sobre lienzo de 81 x 100 cm se conserva actualmente en la prestigiada The Menil Collection en Houston, Texas.

La pintura es un ícono del arte del siglo XX debido a su brillante exploración de la individualidad, la monotonía urbana y la ilusión visual.

A primera vista, la obra muestra una escena desconcertante: decenas de hombres vestidos de forma idéntica flotando en el aire frente a una serie de edificios suburbanos tradicionales bajo un cielo despejado.

Cada figura viste un abrigo oscuro y un bombín (sombrero hongo), el atuendo clásico de la clase media europea de la época y un motivo recurrente que el propio Magritte utilizaba para autorretratarse.

Aunque a menudo se interpreta como una "lluvia de hombres", las figuras carecen por completo de dinamismo o movimiento. 

Están estáticas, suspendidas en una cuadrícula invisible. Algunas parecen más grandes (cercanas) y otras más pequeñas (lejanas), creando una profunda sensación de espacio tridimensional.

Magritte plantea una paradoja.

Posee alrededor de 300 dientes triangulares y aserrados distribuidos en varias filas. 

Si pierde uno, el diente de la fila de atrás se mueve hacia adelante para reemplazarlo, llegando a mudar miles de dientes en toda su vida. 

Es una especie cosmopolita. Se le encuentra principalmente cerca de las costas de Estados Unidos, Sudáfrica, Australia, Nueva Zelanda y en el Mar Mediterráneo.

After struggling a bit with “the Banach space of bounded antisymmetric pairwise functions“, I realized all that is essentially going on is subtracting two value functions. Given this framing, Chat was able to simplify the machinery into a particularly elegant form:

Subtracting the mean TD error from the individual sample TD errors gives all the benefits of relative value learning. Summarized as "relative Bellman regression is TD-error centering".

Unfortunately, while you can create examples where this should be very valuable (someone should write a proper paper on it!), it didn’t actually improve performance on my tasks.

However, I think this has usefully narrowed down what is actually happening. Bellman iteration naturally corrects towards a correct absolute value, but only when the bootstrap values are also training targets. With Q-learning, you are often / mostly bootstrapping from a max-action that was not actually taken, so it never sees any downward Bellman pressure.

This is consistent with another result I have noted: learning state value functions offline from a frozen policy without actions doesn’t seem to suffer from any value overestimation.

Pablo Picasso continuó rompiendo las perspectivas tridimensionales tradicionales con obras cada vez más complejas y coloridas, mientras que pintores como Juan Gris aportaron una precisión geométrica impecable a la naturaleza muerta de la época.

En esa misma época, París recibió la llegada del Dadaísmo, un movimiento antiarte que utilizaba la sátira, el absurdo y el collage para protestar contra la lógica que había llevado a la guerra, liderado por figuras como Francis Picabia. 

Sin embargo, hacia 1924, este nihilismo evolucionó. El escritor André Breton publicó el Manifiesto Surrealista, dando origen oficialmente al Surrealismo. París se convirtió en el hogar de imágenes oníricas e hipnóticas creadas por genios como Joan Miró, Max Ernst y, más tarde, Salvador Dalí, quienes pintaban directamente desde los sueños y el psicoanálisis.

Bajo el término de la "Escuela de París" se agrupó a una impresionante comunidad de artistas extranjeros que llegaron atraídos por la libertad de la ciudad como el Italiano Amedeo Modigliani y el bielorruso Marc Chagall.
